WatchGuard Introduces Open MDR Service with Managed SOC for MSPs

WatchGuard launches Open MDR, a service that enables managed service providers to perform 24/7 threat detection and response, supported by a SOC from WatchGuard itself.

WatchGuard Technologies is expanding its MDR (Managed Detection and Response) offering with Open MDR, a service that provides managed service providers (MSPs) with visibility and response capabilities across both their own and third-party security tools.

With the new service, WatchGuard aims to help MSPs monitor customers’ entire attack surface 24/7. Open MDR integrates signals from WatchGuard products with data from other security solutions. This allows partners to centrally manage their services without customers having to replace existing tools or perform migrations.

According to WatchGuard, the service filters out irrelevant notifications, allowing security teams to better focus on real threats. A proprietary AI engine helps with this by validating threats, limiting false positives, and initiating targeted response actions within an average of six minutes.

Support and SOC

Open MDR provides coverage across endpoints, identities, networks, cloud environments, and productivity tools. The service supports, among others, Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike Falcon, Okta, Microsoft 365, AWS, Google, and various firewall solutions. A dedicated Security Operations Center (SOC) from WatchGuard performs the monitoring and response. MSPs retain ownership of the customer relationship.

WatchGuard positions Open MDR as a scalable solution for smaller and larger MSPs looking to expand their security services without added complexity. The service is available worldwide through WatchGuard’s partner channel and builds on previous MDR solutions. For example, the company launched Total MDR in the summer of last year, following the acquisition of ActZero.
