Trickbot malware discovered in 140,000 machines

trojan

Check Point Research learned that Trickbot infected more than 140,000 machines. Trickbot is a banking trojan that unwittingly steals and compromises financial data.

Researchers at Check Point Research are warning about the trojan Trickbot. Indeed, research found that Trickbot infected more than 140,000 machines, since November 2020.

The trojan can cooperate with different malware families to damage infected machines harder. To do this, the trojan must first find an entry into a target’s system. Access to a system cyber attackers try to gain by forwarding malicious documents via e-mail.

The researchers recommend opening only files from trusted sources as a precaution. If a target does open a malicious file, the main malware begins to install itself.

1.9 percent European companies victimized

Figures from Check Point show that 1.9 percent of European businesses were infected by Trickbot. This allows cybercriminals, in the worst cases, to obtain company credentials and login credentials from banking sites.

Consequently, the infected machines are mostly owned by customers of well-known companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Paypal, Check Point Research reported.
