Kappa Data has developed the IT Compass, a model that helps resellers navigate the complex network and security landscape. The compass provides step-by-step guidance through five security layers.
The network and security landscape has become significantly more complex in recent years. Resellers are faced with numerous techniques, products, and vendors, while regulations such as NIS2 also set new requirements. Kappa Data, a distributor of network and security solutions in the Benelux, recognizes this challenge and now offers resellers support through the ‘IT Compass’.
This compass is a step-by-step method that guides resellers in asking the right questions and identifying customer pain points, risks, and needs. It ensures that resellers always maintain a complete overview and can optimally protect their end customers.
From identity to internet: five security layers
The IT Compass works through five consecutive steps. First, it focuses on identity and determining who or what wants to connect. This includes Identity & Access Management, Asset Discovery, and Vulnerability Management. This basis forms the foundation for all further security measures.
Next, Network Access Control (NAC) is addressed, with an emphasis on Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA). This involves the five Ws: who, what, where, when, and why. Resellers must check whether devices are already known and where users are trying to connect. Employee onboarding and offboarding also deserve attention to prevent former employees from retaining access.
The third layer covers the network connection itself. This goes far beyond just installing switches and Wi-Fi. Campus networks in hospitals require a different approach than smaller companies. Kappa Data has built up significant expertise in this area.
The fourth step focuses on internet connectivity and concepts such as SASE. The fifth layer covers applications and the associated security options. Shadow IT and Shadow AI also deserve attention: applications on the network that are unknown and therefore need to be identified.
Monitoring, detection, and compliance
The IT Compass pays overarching attention to monitoring across the entire chain, detection and response, disaster recovery, and compliance. These themes are essential under regulations such as NIS2. The reseller remains in control.
Kappa Data further supports resellers through additional services. The Health Check allows Kappa Data experts to scan the network. This includes physical audits and interviews that form the basis of a report. Training and back-end support are also available.
Patrick Casteels, CEO of Kappa Data Group, states that network security and compliance are becoming increasingly complex. The IT Compass helps partners ask the right questions and gain insight into end customers’ networks with minimal effort.
