French government agency confirms data breach: 19 million citizen records potentially stolen

The French government agency France Titres has confirmed that a data breach took place last week. Various citizen data is reported to have been compromised.

The French government agency National Agency for Secure Credentials (ANTS), also known as France Titres, is responsible for managing IDs and passports in France. The agency has announced a data breach that occurred last week. This follows a hacker claiming responsibility for the attack and the theft of citizen data. It is not yet clear exactly which data is involved. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Attack claimed

“On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the National Agency for Secure Credentials (ANTS) discovered a security incident potentially exposing data from private and professional accounts on the ants.gouv.fr portal,” ANTS stated in an announcement.

The investigation is still ongoing, but ANTS has already shared a list of potential citizen data that may have been leaked. This includes login ID, title, last name, first names, email address, date of birth, and unique account identification. Where applicable, it may also include postal address, place of birth, and phone number.

ANTS advises citizens to be vigilant for “suspicious or unusual messages they may receive (SMS, phone call, email, etc.) that appear to come from ANTS.”

19 million records

While the French government agency cannot yet provide details on the exact number of citizen records, a threat actor named ‘breach3d’ claimed the dataset contained up to 19 million records, as noted by Bleeping Computer.

In the past month, several companies have fallen victim to data breaches, including Rituals, Basic-Fit, and Booking.com.
