Google is rolling out Identity Check, a new security option for Pixel smartphones running Android 15.
Phone thieves will soon no longer have access to your Google account thanks to the new Security Check. The feature is being rolled out for Pixel smartphones running Android 15.
Better authentication
“A stolen device in the wrong hands can expose sensitive data, leaving you vulnerable to identity theft, financial fraud and privacy violations,” Google wrote in a blog. The feature requires biometric authentication to log into certain accounts or adjust settings when you are not in a trusted location. That authentication is needed to change PINs, turn off theft protection or view Passkeys, for example.
Last year, Google released a number of other theft protection features for Android, including Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock. Theft Detection Lock detects when someone grabs your phone from your hands, and then blocks unwanted access to apps. Identity Check was also launched in beta late last year. The feature is also said to be coming to Samsung Galaxy devices and other Android smartphones in “the coming weeks.”
