Raspberry Pi Pico 2 is available as of now. It is primarily aimed at Internet of Things applications.

The new Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W is now available, reports XDA Developers. The board, which costs seven dollars, offers wireless connectivity and focuses primarily on applications within the Internet of Things (IoT).

Focus on IoT with enhanced capabilities

The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W builds on the Pico 2 introduced earlier this year. This new model includes the RP2350 microcontroller, which was launched earlier in August. This microcontroller has faster cores, more memory and improved power efficiency. In addition, it supports Arm’s TrustZone technology for a stronger security model.

What sets the Pico 2 W apart is the addition of a wireless CYW43439 modem from Infineon. This modem supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11n) and Bluetooth 5.2, which is essential for IoT projects that require connectivity to the cloud. For programmers, C and MicroPython libraries are available, and official MicroPython support is expected soon.

Design and scalability

The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W retains the breadboard-friendly design of its predecessor, making it easy to integrate into prototypes. For large-scale deployments, Raspberry Pi offers a separate RM2 radio module, already used on Pimoroni’s Pico Plus 2 W, for example.

With a price tag of seven dollars, the Pico 2 W targets both hobbyists and professional developers looking for an affordable solution with wireless capabilities for IoT applications.
