The company “/dev/agents” aims to develop a cloud-based operating system for AI agents, laying the foundation for autonomous digital assistants.
The founders of /dev/agents, including several ex-Android top professionals, see AI agents as an important step in the development of AI technology. These agents should be able to perform tasks and make decisions independently, without much human intervention. Large companies such as Microsoft, Salesforce, Google and OpenAI are already developing such tools.
However, according to co-founder and CEO David Singleton, who previously served as VP of engineering at Android, building good AI agents is currently too complex. He argues that an “Android-like moment for AI” is needed to make the technology widely accessible.
With their operating system, the founders want to create a development platform that makes it easier to build useful AI agents.
Focus on collaboration and privacy
Focusing on a new kind of user experience, the company /dev/agents aims to develop AI agents that can securely collaborate with users across devices. Singleton stresses that a revised privacy model and new user interfaces are essential to the success of such technologies.
The team behind /dev/agents consists of prominent names from the tech world. In addition to Singleton and Barra, contributors to the project include Ficus Kirkpatrick, a former Android engineer and VP of AR and VR at Meta, and Nicholas Jitkoff, a ChromeOS designer. Barra, who previously held leadership positions at Xiaomi and Oculus VR, adds his experience in product development.
With this diverse expertise, /dev/agents aims to set a new standard in the world of AI agents. The operating system should lay the foundation for the next generation of digital assistants, with a focus on ease of use and reliability.
