Gartner Predicts all IT Jobs Will Use AI by 2030

Gartner predicts that all IT department activities will be carried out with the help of AI by 2030, but this won’t result in many job losses.

Research firm Gartner expects that by 2030, all IT department activities will be carried out with the help of AI. This doesn’t mean that many jobs will be lost.

No Significant Job Losses

“81 percent of work is currently done by humans without AI assistance,” said VP analyst Alicia Mullery during her keynote at a Gartner conference. “In five years, that percentage will drop to 75 percent. The rest of the work will be done by bots.”

According to VP analyst Daryl Plummer, the fact that AI will be used to help employees won’t lead to AI taking many jobs. However, he and Mullery predict that entry-level jobs will disappear, as AI can take over tasks typically performed by junior profiles.

High Cost and Investment

Companies will also struggle to implement AI due to the explosive increase in costs for AI workloads. “ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) comes with clear costs,” Plummer notes. “You pay for the license and implementation, and then for training people to use it.” The same investment is needed for AI. Because the technology evolves so rapidly, continuous employee training and exploration of new use cases are required.

Nevertheless, they advise IT managers to implement AI as soon as possible, preferably using the four major hyperscalers: AWS, Microsoft, Google, and Alibaba. “In terms of their ability to mobilize resources and talent, they are comparable to geopolitical superpowers,” they both stated.

“OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, and XAI are not yet ready for the business world.” Plummer tells The Register that he believes OpenAI has not made enough effort to integrate its offerings into business software, as Microsoft did with Copilot AI and Microsoft 365.

AI Agents in Power

Finally, according to the duo, AI agents would be more interesting for companies than AI chatbots. These autonomous agents can be easily implemented in various business processes. For example, to negotiate with suppliers or prepare financial documents. AI agents seem to be the future of work. Gartner also mentioned them as one of the key technology trends of this year.
