Penta Infra will open a new data center with a capacity of 20 megawatts in Munich in 2028. With data centers in Berlin, Leipzig, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne, the company already had a significant footprint in Germany. Now it is also expanding to the southeast of the country.
The choice of Munich fits within the strategy to expand in major European cities. The Bavarian capital is home to numerous large companies in industries such as automotive, insurance and technology development. The new data center will accommodate both classic colocation customers and organizations working with applications around artificial intelligence or high performance computing.
Sustainable ambitions and European focus
For the latter category, Penta Infra provides support for high-density workloads with liquid cooling. The data center is designed with attention to sustainability. For example, there will be infrastructure for heat recovery, it will use 100 percent renewable energy and there will be on-site solar energy production.
Penta Infra emphasizes that the location in Munich will meet the highest standards for energy efficiency, security and redundancy. The company, founded in 2015 and owned by Photon Capital and PGGM, owns 15 data centers spread across Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.
