Intel will not develop a version of Xeon 7 with eight memory channels. The focus for the server chips will be exclusively on sixteen channels.
Intel announces that it has modified its plans for Diamond Rapids. Diamond Rapids is the codename for the manufacturer’s future Xeon 7 server processors, scheduled for launch in 2026.
Xeon 7 will exclusively feature sixteen memory channels. The more entry-level models with eight channels are no longer planned. Instead, Intel will integrate sixteen channels across the entire lineup.
Simplification
This simplification of the Diamond Rapids platform should benefit both Intel and customers. Even at the lower end of the product family, users can enjoy the extra memory bandwidth.
With eight memory channels, Intel was lagging a bit behind AMD’s server chips. For Epyc 9004 and 9005, AMD opts for a uniform twelve channels, which theoretically provides 50% more memory bandwidth.
