Energy giant Eni activates supercomputer HPC6

Energy giant Eni presses the start button on its most powerful supercomputer HPC6.

Italian energy giant Eni has launched the world’s most powerful supercomputer, HPC6. This supercomputer has an estimated cost of 100 million euros and will be used to handle certain artificial intelligence functions. In addition, Eni will use the HPC6 in an effort to scale up its oil and gas discovery technology. The computer was powered up on Christmas Day in Ferrera Erbognone, a small municipality in Italy.

HPC6, one of the most powerful supercomputers, was started on Christmas Day by Eni. This computer has an estimated cost of more than 100 million euros and has 14,000 graphics processing units (GPUs). The HPC6 can help the energy company by determining exactly where oil and gas reserves are located, the size of deposits and the best drilling strategy. It also calculates clean energy and decarbonization.

The supercomputer was powered up on Christmas Day in Ferrera Erbognone, a small municipality in Italy. HPC6 is currently the fifth fastest supercomputer in the world according to the annual TOP500 list.
