With the acquisition, Datacenter United expands its operations to 13 data centers in strategic locations in Flanders and Brussels.
Datacenter United is acquiring four data centers from Proximus for €128 million. These data centers are spread over three locations: Evere, Mechelen and Machelen. For the acquisition, the data center business of Proximus will be transferred to a new entity, of which DCU will then take over the entire shares.
Thanks to the acquisition, Datacenter United now has 13 data centers in Flanders and Brussels. This makes them the largest colocation provider in Belgium. Proximus will remain as a tenant after the transaction. It has signed a long-term contract with DCU for at least 10 years, with options to extend this contract twice by 5 years.
Friso Haringsma, CEO of DCU, will lead the combined operations of DCU and Proximus’ data centers.
CORD and TINC as co-shareholders
Along with the news of the Proximus data center acquisition, Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Limited (CORD) announced that it is buying 50 percent of DCU shares from TINC and Haringsma. TINC has held a 75 percent majority stake in Datacenter United since 2020, Haringsma the remaining 25 percent.
The financing of the acquisition the Proximus data centers is borne by CORD, TINC and Haringsma. Completion of the transactions is expected in the first quarter of 2025, following competition authority approval.
