Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, said during the Q4 2024 quarterly earnings presentation that the new data center GPUs will be launched earlier than originally announced.

“We had previously indicated that we would launch the MI350 in the second half,” Su said during AMD’s quarterly earnings presentation. “There is very strong customer demand, and therefore we are going to ramp up production mid-year to improve our competitiveness.”

New customers

AMD’ s data center revenue is almost nothing compared to rival Nvidia’s, which regularly exceeds tens of billions of dollars per quarter, writes TechCrunch. But AMD has gained ground in the past year by bringing in big customers such as Meta, Microsoft and IBM.

AMD says sales of AMD Instinct chips exceeded $5 billion in 2024 and the company expects its data center segment to grow “double digits” in 2025. Last year, data center revenue accounted for about half ($3.9 billion) of AMD’s total revenue ($7.1 billion), the company reported Tuesday.

Immediately after the announcement of the results, the stock market reacted positively, but not long after, a significant correction took place.
