OpenAI wants users to soon be able to log in to other apps with their ChatGPT account, as Google and Apple already do.
OpenAI is exploring the possibility of allowing users to log in to third-party apps using their ChatGPT account. Developers can already sign up to test the new service.
Counterpart to Google and Apple
With an estimated 600 million monthly users, including a significant number of Flemish people, ChatGPT has become one of the most popular consumer applications worldwide. OpenAI wants to leverage this popularity by offering its own login system for apps, just like Apple or Google. Think of “Sign in with ChatGPT” next to existing buttons like “Sign in with Google”.
First Test with Developers
An early version of the login function was already tested in Codex CLI, an AI coding tool from OpenAI. Users could link their ChatGPT account to their API account there and received API credit as a reward. OpenAI is now gauging interest from app developers with varying user numbers for integration.
CEO Sam Altman already indicated in 2023 that a universal login was part of the plans, writes TechCrunch. Now this ambition seems to be becoming more concrete in 2025, but it’s not yet clear when the feature will be available to the general public. OpenAI has not yet given an official response.
