OpenAI Expands Capabilities in ChatGPT Search with New Updates, Including an Online Shopping Feature
OpenAI has announced new updates for ChatGPT Search via its X account, aimed at providing users with an improved online shopping experience.
Searching for Products
When users search for products, ChatGPT will now display some recommendations, corresponding images, reviews, and direct links to webshops. The tool can process specific questions in natural language and provides personalized results. The initial focus is on categories such as fashion, beauty, household items, and electronics.
Currently Without Advertisements
According to OpenAI, the search results are compiled based on external metadata, such as prices and product descriptions. At present, the results are organic, and no advertisements or paid placements are added. CEO Sam Altman is, in principle, open to affiliate deals, but this is not yet on the agenda.
In addition to the new shopping options, ChatGPT now also displays popular search queries when typing a question, similar to what Google does. The search function is now also available in WhatsApp, allowing users to request current answers and product information during a chat conversation.
Soon, ChatGPT will use its memory function for Pro and Plus users to provide even more personalized recommendations using information from previous conversations. By combining memory with shopping, the chatbot can, for example, take into account preferences shared earlier. The feature is available for ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscribers, free users, and non-logged-in users worldwide.
