OpenAI is reportedly set to launch its own AI web browser soon, putting it in direct competition with Google Chrome.
OpenAI is reportedly on the verge of releasing an AI-powered web browser, according to Reuters based on three people familiar with the matter. The company aims to directly compete with Google Chrome and radically change users’ browsing behavior.
AI-powered web browser
According to Reuters sources, OpenAI’s AI-powered web browser could be launched within weeks. This browser will be wrapped in a ChatGPT-like interface, where interactions remain in a native chat interface without having to click through to websites.

This new AI web browser is also part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to capture user data on the web. Something that is also the foundation of Google’s success.
Google under pressure
With this move, OpenAI would directly compete with Google Chrome. ChatGPT has around 400 million weekly active users. If they all switch to OpenAI’s web browser, it will impact Google Chrome’s advertising revenue.
