GitHub Copilot users are imposed monthly limits.
From now on, there are limits on heavy AI requests in GitHub Copilot. Users who prefer not to be limited will have to pay extra.
Premium Requests
Customers with a Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, or Enterprise subscription can still make requests, but not unlimited ones. Complex tasks such as code review or Agent Mode become “premium requests”, according to GitHub. The number of allowed tasks you can perform depends on your subscription:
- Pro (300 per month)
- Pro+ (1,500 per month)
- Business (300 per user per month)
- Enterprise (1,000 per user per month)
Differences in AI Models
How quickly you use up your requests and hit the limit also depends on the AI model you use. These have different multipliers. For example, GPT-4.5 uses a 50x multiplier. This means that your premium requests are used up five times faster than with Claude Opus 4 (10x), for instance.
If you want to go over the limit, you pay $0.04 per premium request. This approach is reminiscent of the classic “unexpected bill” model from the telecom and cloud sector, writes The Register.
