Microsoft Gives Its Microsoft 365 Users Access to More AI Features in OneDrive for Web.

Microsoft announces in a blog post the rollout of Copilot for Microsoft 365 users in OneDrive for web. This integration was already available for commercial Microsoft 365 customers, but is now coming to Family and Personal subscribers as well. Users will have the ability to summarize documents from OneDrive web, compare them, or get answers to questions about documents.

Summarizing and Comparing

There’s no more escaping Copilot for Microsoft 365 users. The integration of Copilot in the web version of OneDrive has been available for commercial Microsoft 365 customers since 2024. Now Microsoft is bringing its Copilot experience in OneDrive on the web to Family and Personal subscribers as well.

With this new capability, users can have documents stored in OneDrive for web summarized by Copilot. To do this, select the desired file (maximum 5 files), click on the Copilot icon and then on Summarize. Copilot then does its work and creates a concise summary of the documents.

In addition to summarizing documents, you can also compare files with Copilot in OneDrive for the web. The AI bot helps highlight the differences between up to 5 files. This can be useful for comparing quotes, for example. If you want to quickly get an answer to a question about a specific document, click on the file and then on the Copilot icon. A new chat window opens and the AI bot answers your questions.

Family Subscription

Copilot for web is being rolled out to all Family and Personal subscribers with a Microsoft 365 account. Notably, within the Family subscription, only the ‘owner’ gets access to the Copilot features. Microsoft further states that most subscribers will get access soon, but that the features will be rolled out through June 2025.
