Google has more than a quarter of its new code generated by AI.

That Google is embracing AI in its product offerings has been clear for some time. The company recently launched custom chatbots(Gems) powered by Gemini. Google is said to be actively using AI internally as well. Indeed, in a blog post, chief executive Sundar Pichai writes that Google has more than a quarter of new code generated by AI. This code is then reviewed and accepted by engineers. This, he says, helps employees get more done.

AI-generated code

Google has a lot of AI services in its portfolio, but is also using AI itself to build AI products. The company doesn’t hide that. “We also use AI internally to improve our coding processes, which increases productivity and efficiency. Today, more than a quarter of all new code at Google is generated by AI, and then reviewed and accepted by engineers. This helps our engineers get more done and move faster,” Pichai said in a blog post.

In that same blog, Google cited quarterly earnings. Parent company Alphabet reported some 88 billion in revenue for the third quarter. This with Google Cloud revenues of $11.4 billion, representing a 35 percent increase year over year.

Despite promising numbers, Google is currently in difficult waters. Google was sued for unlawfully building a monopoly in the search market, which could lead to a breakup of the company.
