OpenAI’s ChatGPT is currently not functioning properly. Users worldwide are no longer seeing answers, and in old conversations, the AI’s contributions have disappeared.

ChatGPT is experiencing a bug. OpenAI confirms this. Since this morning, the chatbot has been silent. Asking questions is still possible, but answers are invisible. ChatGPT’s responses in old chats are also no longer readable, turning these threads into one-sided conversations.
Widespread sisruption
De problemen begonnen enkele uren geleden bij een aantal gebruikers en lijken nog niet iedereen te treffen. Sinds iets na tien uur is OpenAI op de hoogte van de bug. Het bedrijf onderzoekt het euvel en heeft de oorzaak intussen gevonden. Een oplossing is in de maak. Alle componenten van ChatGPT ondervinden hinder, zowel via de browsers als de (mobiele) app.
It’s not yet clear what the cause is, or when the chatbot will be back online. It’s noticeable that the small widget to share or copy answers still appears, but not always immediately. This suggests that ChatGPT is still thinking, which leads to the assumption that the bug is specifically related to displaying the answers.

The downtime affects both free and paying users. ChatGPT is the most popular GenAI tool worldwide for both private and professional use. Even Microsoft is struggling to promote Copilot alongside ChatGPT. Globally, the tool has become established as an aid, for example in drafting emails or summarizing reports. As a result, the bug has an immediate impact on the operations of many companies.
