Mobile users of ChatGPT can now choose between Standard Thinking or Extended Thinking.
OpenAI is rolling out an update for ChatGPT on Android that allows users to set the model’s thinking time on mobile as well. Until now, the Thinking option was automatically limited on Android. This reduced the amount of computing power used without lengthy reasoning.
With the update, the choice between Standard Thinking and Extended Thinking now also appears on mobile, writes BleepingComputer. These options have been available on desktop for some time. Extended Thinking gives the model more time to think, allowing it to perform better with complex questions and multi-step tasks.
Also innovations on desktop
In addition to the mobile update, OpenAI is also making improvements on desktop. For example, the company is introducing ‘formatting blocks’, a new display depending on the task, such as e-mails. If users have text written, the output does not appear as a standard chat response, but in an environment with a mini-editor.
The new switch is exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Users with the cheaper ChatGPT Go subscription cannot adjust the thinking time. The new features are being rolled out in phases and are not yet visible to all users at the same time.
