AWS Storage Gateway now supports the Nutanix AHV hypervisor as a deployment option. Organizations with an on-premises infrastructure based on Nutanix AHV can now deploy the service directly in their environment.
Amazon Web Services is expanding the compatibility of Storage Gateway with support for the Nutanix AHV hypervisor. This allows companies using Nutanix AHV to implement Storage Gateway for S3 File, Tape, and Volume gateways. The expansion focuses on organizations that combine on-premises workloads with cloud storage in AWS.
Hybrid storage architectures
Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage service that connects local applications to cloud storage in AWS. The service supports various protocols, including NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and iSCSI-VTL. Companies use Storage Gateway for, among other things, backing up and archiving to AWS, moving on-premises data to cloud-based file sharing, and offering access to cloud data with low latency for local applications.
Until now, Storage Gateway could be deployed as a virtual appliance on VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Linux KVM, or as an instance within Amazon EC2. With the addition of Nutanix AHV, an extra option is added for organizations that have standardized their virtualization environment on Nutanix.
According to AWS, the expansion offers more flexibility in designing hybrid storage architectures. Companies do not have to adapt their existing Nutanix environment to use Storage Gateway and can continue to use the same AWS storage services.
Availability
Support for Nutanix AHV is available in all AWS regions where Storage Gateway is offered. Customers can configure the service via the existing Storage Gateway management console.
