Amazon is fully committed to agentic AI with a new AI division within AWS, led by Swami Sivasubramanian. According to AWS CEO Matt Garman, agentic AI could grow into a billion-dollar business for the company. Both gentlemen gave keynotes at the AWS re:Invent conference late last year.
Next AI Wave: Automation Without Prompts
Agentic AI automates tasks without users having to provide explicit instructions. Amazon already demonstrated a preview of this technology last week with an updated version of Alexa, which will be released later this month.
AI agents are the core of the next round of innovation,
Garman wrote in an internal email. He emphasized that Amazon’s technology can help companies innovate faster and unlock more possibilities.
In addition to establishing the agentic AI group, AWS is implementing a broader reorganization, according to Reuters. Under the leadership of senior VP Peter DeSantis, AI departments Bedrock and SageMaker, along with hardware engineering, are being moved to the compute organization. Additionally, a new unit is being set up that combines customer experience and commerce.
