Wero to become payment option in Belgian webshops

Wero will henceforth be available as a payment option for Belgian online stores.

The European payment system Wero will soon be available as a payment option at Belgian webshops, according to HLN. Wero is the successor to the Payconiq payment service, which is scheduled to disappear this year. The European payment system Wero will then take over the mantle.

Wero was initially only available for mobile payments between individuals. According to the European Payments Initiative, a partnership of sixteen European financial companies, this is now being expanded to Belgian webshops.

Payments in webshops

Wero was launched in 2024 to facilitate payments between friends and family in Belgium, France, and Germany. Until today, the payment service was only available for mobile payments between individuals, although that changed at the end of last year. Since then, companies in Germany have been able to use Wero to receive payments. Now, this will also be possible in Belgium.

Banks including ING, KBC, BNP Paribas Fortis, and Belfius will soon support the payment method. Additionally, physical stores such as Delhaize, Lidl, bpost, and Pairi Daiza are set to roll out the Wero payment option later this year.
