Oracle is laying off thousands of employees via email. The money saved will presumably go toward AI infrastructure.
Oracle has carried out a large-scale round of layoffs, with several thousand people receiving their notice via email. It is not yet clear exactly how many employees are affected. According to various media outlets, such as The Economic Times and CNBC, it involves thousands of layoffs. There is a suspicion that AI investments are at the root of this restructuring.

The full email was shared on Reddit. “After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have decided to eliminate your position as part of a broader organizational change. This means that today is your last day of work. We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and the impact you have had during your time with us,” the email reads.
Employees who sign the severance documents are eligible for a severance package.

This round of layoffs comes just as Oracle is heavily investing in AI. It is therefore suspected that the saved funds will go toward AI investments.
Oracle is not the first company to carry out a major round of layoffs. Workday laid off 1,750 employees this year because of AI, and AWS also preceded the company, laying off 16,000 people in January for the same reason.
