Nvidia has completed the acquisition of Run:ai, an Israeli startup specializing in managing and optimize AI hardware infrastructure, completed.
Nvidia has acquired Run:ai for $700 million. The deal was announced in April but faced competition investigations in both the U.S. and Europe.
Optimizing AI tasks
Run:ai develops software that reduces the number of graphics processors required for AI tasks by applying smart optimizations. Thus, the same infrastructure can run up to ten times more AI workloads. The software also prevents inefficient use of GPUs.
As part of the acquisition, Run:ai announced that the software, which currently works exclusively with Nvidia products, will become open source. Competitors such as AMD and Intel can adapt the technology for their own hardware. “Open sourcing the software will extend its availability to the entire AI ecosystem,” said co-founders Ronen Dar and Omri Geller.
The European Commission recently approved the acquisition, and Nvidia agreed not to limit the technology to keep out competitors. Run:ai has plans to expand its team, improve its products and expand its market reach.
