The municipality of Rotterdam chooses Itsme to give citizens access to digital government systems. With this, the Belgian application starts its expansion into the Netherlands, following its great success at home.

Itsme strictures Rotterdam as a customer for its identity application. The Belgian company has been setting its sights on our neighbors to the north for some time and is now getting its first hit. Rotterdam will only use Itsme for identification. The Dutch city will not integrate other functionality, such as the integration of DocuSign and Adobe Sign, for the time being. Tweakers knows this.

Popularity boost

In our country, Itsme has been providing a convenient alternative to log in to the digital government and most banks, among others, for several years. A real popularity boost came with the corona pandemic. Indeed, on the CovidSafe app, you can log in via Itsme to get your vaccination and recovery certificates. That is by far the easiest way to use the app, increasing the number of Belgian users to nearly 6 million in.

Itsme does not only focus on identification in government. Companies have already integrated the application as well. In Belgium, Itsme currently has 183 partners with which the identification app works, most of whom are companies.

Investments

As recently as last summer, Itsme raised 24.7 million euros to finance its growth plans. That money came from the Federal Participation and Investment Corporation, among others. Itsme wants to become a European player, and already obtained recognition from Europe in 2020 to that end. Today, Belgians can already identify themselves with the app at various foreign institutions. Thanks to the collaboration with Rotterdam, the solution now also appears abroad for foreign citizens.
