Apple mixed-reality glasses may not launch until 2023 due to technical difficulties

Apple is running into problems in the development of its own mixed-reality headset. According to several sources, Apple will be forced to delay the launch, possibly even until 2023.

Apple has been working on mixed-reality glasses for some time. Not many details have yet been released about the headset, beyond its launch date of late 2022. Due to technical problems, that date is now in jeopardy.

There is no official confirmation yet that the launch date will actually be pushed back. The news comes from Bloomberg who quoted several sources familiar with the goings-on within Apple. According to them, Apple is looking into whether it is a good idea to delay the launch.

Exercising patience

Two new launch dates are currently emerging from the rumors. On the one hand, Apple may release the headset in the fall. Since it was thought that Apple would announce the headset at its own Worldwide Developers Conference in June, the glasses were originally expected just after that event. So in the first scenario, the launch shifts by several months. On the other hand, the issues may require much more work, so the mixed-reality glasses may not be available until 2023.

This is bad news for users who were waiting for the release, for them it is always possible to take a look at the competition. Indeed, better news is coming from the competitive corner. In fact, the release of the Magic Leap 2 for later this year is right on schedule. Magic Leap is currently having the headset tested by a small number of healthcare companies.
