Anthropic sees its valuation triple in less than a year after a new funding round.
Anthropic is about to raise up to 10 billion dollars in a new funding round. This was reported by Bloomberg based on sources close to the matter. The round would thus become one of the largest ever for an AI startup.
Strong Demand from Investors
Initially, there was talk of a capital injection of 5 billion dollars, but due to high interest from investors, that amount has reportedly doubled. Investment firm Iconiq Capital would lead the round, with support from TPG Inc., Spark Capital, Menlo Ventures, and Lightspeed Venture Partners, among others. Sovereign wealth funds from Qatar and Singapore would also be involved in the discussions.
Valuation Rises Explosively
With this round, Anthropic would be valued at 170 billion dollars, a strong increase compared to the 61.5 billion dollars in a round earlier this year. The company, founded in 2021 by former employees of OpenAI, positions itself as a safe and reliable player in the AI race.
The billions are needed to compete with OpenAI and Elon Musk’s xAI. All three are investing heavily in data centers and talent to improve their AI models. The current data center infrastructure is consequently coming under severe pressure.
