After Nvidia, AMD also gets permission again to supply its chips to China.

Nvidia received positive feedback from the Trump administration a few days ago. The company gets permission to export H20 GPUs to China. Now AMD has also received good news for its Instinct MI308 chip. “We were recently informed by the Department of Commerce that license applications for exporting MI308 products to China will be reviewed,” AMD told The Register.

The US tightened export rules for China, resulting in Nvidia receiving an export ban on its H20 GPUs, which were specially designed for China, and AMD was also no longer allowed to export its chips.

AMD said the ban on exporting its MI308 chips would cost around $800 million, while Nvidia estimated the cost at $5.5 billion. The US consequently adjusted its decision, allowing the chip giants to export their chips to China again from now on.

“We plan to resume shipments once the licenses are approved. We applaud the progress the Trump administration has made in advancing trade discussions and its commitment to US AI leadership”, AMD told The Register
