Amazon has invested another four billion dollars in AI start-up Anthropic. This raises the total investment to eight billion.
Amazon has invested four billion dollars in Anthropic. This is Amazon’s largest investment in a start-up to date, and shows how fierce the competition in generative AI is. Anthropic, known for its chatbot Claude, was valued at eighteen billion dollars earlier this year and previously received two billion dollars from Google.
Invest, invest, invest!
The partnership strengthens the integration of Anthropic’s AI models with Amazon’s cloud and chip products. Amazon is not working exclusively with Anthropic, and may also partner with companies such as Google and Nvidia. Claude will be integrated into an advanced version of Alexa.
With this move, Amazon follows other tech giants making similar investments, Financial Times knows. Microsoft, for example, has invested more than thirteen billion dollars in OpenAI. They are investing not only in AI innovation, but also in cloud infrastructure to support these systems.
While these deals accelerate the development of AI, there are growing concerns among regulators about potential competitive risks. Amazon emphasizes that demand for AI services continues to grow.
