Which Surface Models Will Survive the Transition to Windows 11?

Surface Pro Line-up

Not every Microsoft Surface model will remain usable after Windows 10 support ends in October this year.

Windows 10 is gradually coming to an end, so Microsoft has shared on a support page which Surface models can get an upgrade to Windows 11. People who have a recent Surface don’t need to worry. It’s probably already running Windows 11 or can be easily upgraded. For older models, the story ends here, but you can still continue to use them.

Which Models Are Left Out?

Windows 11 requires at least an eighth generation Intel Core chip (or a similar or newer chip). Models such as the Surface Book 3, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Laptop 4, Surface Laptop Go, Surface Pro 6, Surface Pro 7, Surface Pro 7+, Surface Pro X and the Surface Studio 2 are still safe.

It’s the older models that won’t get support for Windows 11: Surface Book (Gen 1), Surface Book 2, Surface Go 1 (Gen 1), Surface Laptop, Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface (Gen 5) and Surface Studio (Gen 1).

Upgrading: Windows Version or Own Device

You still have some time to upgrade, Windows 10 support doesn’t end until October 10. Microsoft recommends users still working with Windows 10 on a compatible device to upgrade. If the device is not eligible, the tech giant suggests buying a new PC.
