Support for Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs on Windows 10 will soon end.
Nvidia will soon pull the plug on older graphics cards. Starting October 2025, the Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta generations, including popular models like the GeForce GTX 1060, will no longer receive new drivers.
End of Optimizations
The decision means these cards will no longer receive updates. However, Nvidia will continue to release quarterly security updates until October 2028, ensuring that users of older PCs remain protected against vulnerabilities.
The operating system itself is also affected. Nvidia will completely stop driver support for Windows 10 in October 2026. This is a year later than Microsoft’s official end-of-life, allowing users who activate the free Extended Security Updates (ESU) to still receive graphics updates. After that, Windows 11 will be required for further driver support, even for the latest RTX 40 and 50 series.
Outlook
The announcement is not unexpected: Nvidia already labeled support for Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta as “feature complete” earlier this year. It marks the first major reduction in GPU support since 2021. Meanwhile, Windows 10, despite a declining trend, still runs on more than a third of PCs.
