New Lenovo ThinkBook is (somewhat) rollable

Lenovo is launching a ThinkBook at CES that is labeled rollable. Unfortunately, you can’t roll that much and it doesn’t make the laptop more compact.

Lenovo is showing the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable at CES in Las Vegas. That device, contrary to what the name suggests, is the first generation of a ThinkBook with a rollable screen. “Rollable” sounds spectacular; “expandable” is functionally a more correct word.

The laptop comes standard with a 14-inch screen. You can expand or stretch that upward to 16.7 inches (in height). That way you create a lot of extra vertical screen space. Lenovo makes mention of accompanying split-screen functionality to support the unique screen.

Intel and AI

The ThinkBook Plus is powered by Intel Core Ultra processors but Lenovo does not specify which ones. The manufacturer also calls the device an AI laptop, although Intel’s very latest Core Ultra chips, announced at CES, are not so suitable for AI workloads.

Lenovo ThinkBook is a business laptop series, and this ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable is a business device as such. CES is traditionally the time of year where hardware makers launch unique devices with never-before-seen functionality. This is how they gauge market reaction, and demonstrate their technical prowess. How much value the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable really adds is not so clear.
