Motorola announces the ThinkPhone 25, the successor to the ThinkPhone. The device is supposed to appeal to a professional audience, but how “business-like” is the ThinkPhone 25 in reality?
The ThinkPhone made its debut in early 2023. The device was aimed at the professional user and was supposed to serve as an extension of your (Lenovo) laptop. Today Motorola announces a successor with the ThinkPhone 25. Once again, the focus is on the “business DNA” of the device to appeal to professionals.

Tougher than steel
Business is synonymous with ruggedness, according to Motorola. The ThinkPhone 25 is MIL-STD 810H certified, meaning the device meets military durability requirements. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and aramid fiber, sturdier than steel according to Motorola, protect the device from scratch or drop damage.
The IP68 rating tells you that the device is resistant to dirt, dust and sand. Even a dive in water up to 1.5 meters deep and for up to thirty minutes should not be fatal. Even extreme weather conditions pose no problem, assures the manufacturer: the device has a temperature range of -30°C to 60°C. You can take the device with confidence on your business trips. The support for eSIM makes it easy to take out a temporary data bundle at your destination.
Motorola is jacking up the resolution of the 6.36-inch screen compared to the previous generation, for better video calls and display visuals. A MediaTek Dimensity 7300 should make all that possible. The processor is certainly not a top performer, but it is a more than capable chipset that also allows for a much lower price tag.
The device also features a hefty battery that, again according to Motorola, can last up to 34 hours. Charging is done at a capacity of 68W, which should give you enough charge after eleven minutes to get you through your next workday. The included USB-C charger is powerful enough to charge your laptop as well, so you only need to bring one charger for all your devices.
Business DNA
The business DNA manifests itself not only in the design, but also in the software. Motorola refers to, among other things, the presence of Smart Connect, which provides seamless integration between your smartphone and PC. This makes it easy to exchange files between devices, or use your smartphone camera as a webcam.
Such functionality is not unique to the ThinkPhone 25 and is also seen in high-end phones from the likes of Samsung and Apple. ThinkShield and Moto Secure should provide a double defense belt.
With an update policy of 5 + 5 years, Motorola misses the mark as far as we are concerned. Other brands such as Samsung and Google have now increased their support period to seven years. For a device that wants to profile itself in the business market, the ThinkPhone 25 could have just distinguished itself in this area.
Motorola’s ThinkPhone25 will be available in Belgium from mid-November for a suggested retail price of 499.99 euros, incl. VAT. The price thus drops significantly with respect to the first ThinkPhone phone (999 euros). That could put the ThinkPhone 25 on the market as an interesting alternative to business phones, which now mostly come from the higher price brackets.
