WhatsApp working on video and voice calls via web

WhatsApp is expected to enable video and voice capabilities via the web soon.

WhatsApp has been offering the ability to make (video) calls via the WhatsApp mobile app and the PC or Mac app on desktop for quite some time. Now, WhatsApp seems to be bringing the same functionalities to its web client. WABetaInfo discovered the familiar call and video icons in WhatsApp on the web.

Calling via the web

Currently, WhatsApp users can only make (video) calls via the mobile app or the PC or Mac app on desktop. This can be done easily by clicking on the familiar video and call icons in the top right of a chat. During a conversation, it’s also possible to switch between a video or voice call.

WABetaInfo has now discovered that WhatsApp is working on adding the same functionalities to its web client. In the screenshot above, the video and voice icons are visible in the top right of the WhatsApp web window. This will allow users to call directly from the browser, without having to download and install the web application first.

This feature for the WhatsApp web client is currently still in development and is expected to be available with the next new update of the web client.
