Meta AI, Meta’s integrated AI assistant, is now available as a separate application. The company aims to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Meta launches a standalone AI app called Meta AI. The parent company of Facebook, among others, wants to compete with ChatGPT. Meta AI was already available in the company’s social media platforms, but now there’s a separate app that provides users with a more “personalized AI” experience. Meta’s AI assistant includes various features that will first appear in the United States, followed by other regions.
Standalone app
Meta AI was launched in Europe at the end of March. The company integrated this AI assistant into its social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Here, users can ask questions to AI from within the app. From now on, Meta’s AI assistant will also be available as a separate app, just like ChatGPT. Meta makes no secret of it and wants to compete with OpenAI with this step.
Meta AI, built with Llama 4, is “a first step towards building a more personalized AI,” according to the company. Mark Zuckerberg describes the tool in an Instagram reel as a tool to follow the news, for example, but the classic functions such as generating images or text remain possible.

Furthermore, Meta adds a ‘Social Feed‘ to the app. This shows an overview of what other users are creating with Meta AI. Some features will first be available in the United States. After that, they will also appear in other regions.
