Google is discontinuing the database app Tables at the end of the year. Users can switch to Sheets or AppSheet.
Google Tables won’t make it to 2026. The database tool will lose support on December 16, 2026. Tables is thus the next victim to end up in Google’s mass grave. Google notified users by email and refers to a FAQ page for more information.
Switching to AppSheet or Sheets
Tables was barely five years old and was one of the many projects that originated from Google’s Area 120 project at the time. Many of the features were experimental and were quickly discontinued, but Tables did make it into the Workspace suite. The database app proved versatile in use for project management, CRM, recruiting, and more.
The main functionalities of Tables, such as data monitoring and storage, will be transferred to AppSheet. Google is launching a migration tool to transfer Tables data to AppSheet or Sheets. You’ll need to undertake this action yourself if you don’t want to lose any data: Google won’t automatically transfer your data to other Workspace applications.
Google cemetery
It’s unclear why Google is sending Tables to the eternal hunting grounds. Perhaps Google feels that with Sheets and AppSheet, it has sufficient database tools in its offering. Google doesn’t shy away from discontinuing services and apps once it no longer wants to support them.
The ‘Google graveyard’ is gradually becoming a concept in the tech world. Since 2006, nearly 300 Google products, apps, and services have found their final resting place. Most of these are experimental features you’ve probably never used, but also apps that Google had big plans for (remember Google+ and Google Glass, for example?).
This year, Google has managed to restrain itself from phasing out apps. Tables is one of the first victims of 2025. Among the latest additions were Google One VPN and the Chromecast. As the end of the year approaches, Google is bringing out its chopping block again.
