Google Cloud has announced the launch of Gemini Code Assist Enterprise, an AI-powered tool for software development. The platform offers developers advanced code support, with local codebase awareness and customization options, allowing companies to integrate their internal best practices into the development environment.
Gemini Code Assist Enterprise offers more than just AI support in the IDE. The system can analyze the local codebase and make specific code suggestions based on it. This helps developers perform tasks faster, such as upgrading a Java version for an entire project. This enhanced support allows developers to maintain their workflow and focus on creative problem solving.
A key feature of the platform is its code customization capability. Organizations can integrate their own best practices and internal libraries so that developers receive code suggestions specific to their needs. The system currently supports repositories from GitHub and GitLab, with support for other sources such as on-premises repositories starting in 2025.
Broad integration within Google Cloud
Gemini Code Assist Enterprise goes beyond use within IDEs. It integrates with various Google Cloud services such as Firebase, BigQuery, and Apigee. This makes developers more versatile and helps them embrace new technologies faster. In BigQuery, for example, the tool provides support for SQL and Python, with ready-made queries and natural language interfaces for data analysis.
