Copilot No Longer Mysteriously Disappeared After Windows 11 Update

Microsoft copilot

The March update for Windows 11 has unintentionally removed the Copilot app. You can reinstall Copilot again. The bug has now been resolved by Microsoft.

After installing the March update for Windows 11, Copilot seemed to have suddenly vanished without a trace. Microsoft reported in a support document that Windows 11 update KB5053598 ‘unintentionally’ caused the uninstallation of Copilot, including its taskbar icon. Microsoft has now confirmed in the same document that the bug has been fixed and Copilot is functional again.

Microsoft reassures users that if Copilot is unintentionally removed, they can always reinstall the AI assistant via the software giant’s web store and manually pin it to the taskbar. For those who dislike Copilot, the peace was short-lived. Microsoft is increasingly pushing Copilot onto Windows users and 365 subscribers. It was expected that this problem would be quickly resolved. Without much fuss, Microsoft has restored Copilot and updated the support document.

This is far from resolving all the problems that can occur with the March update for Windows 11. As per tradition, the rollout of the monthly security update is proceeding in fits and starts. If the update manages to install at all, for many users the installation fails multiple times, and it can, among other things, restrict Remote Desktop connections. These bugs have a lower urgency for Microsoft and will be addressed with a follow-up patch.

Nevertheless, there are good reasons to install the update once it becomes more stable. Microsoft patches more than 50 vulnerabilities in Windows with this update.
