OpenAI launches a study mode in ChatGPT that helps students learn step by step, with interactive guidance and personalized explanations.
OpenAI introduces a study mode in ChatGPT. This new feature helps students process learning material step by step, rather than receiving a ready-made answer. The study mode is available today for all users of the Free, Plus, Pro, and Team versions of ChatGPT. A rollout to ChatGPT Edu will follow in a few weeks.
Active Learning
The study mode is designed to help students learn actively rather than passively adopting solutions. When answering questions, ChatGPT now poses guiding and reflective questions, tailored to the student’s level. This should lead to a better understanding of complex topics. The new mode was designed with the help of teachers, scientists, and educational experts.

Students receive hints, questions, and feedback on their answers, for example. ChatGPT’s responses are divided into structured parts, making the information more digestible. The study mode also includes quiz questions and open assignments, allowing users to test and track their understanding. Students can enable or disable the mode at any time during a conversation.
First Step
OpenAI considers this launch as a first step in a broader journey. The company plans deeper integration of the study mode in future models, based on user feedback. Additionally, the team is exploring additional features such as visualizations, learning objectives, and personalized pathways.
