OpenAI announces a new Voice Mode feature that allows users to have real-time conversations with ChatGPT. OpenAI is bringing the feature to paying users in the EU.
ChatGPT is rolling out a new advanced Voice Mode in alpha version. A select few (paying ChatGPT users) will be able to have a one-on-one conversation with ChatGPT. According to OpenAI, the chatbot takes your emotions into account and lets you interrupt the conversation when appropriate.
This is not the first time OpenAI has come up with such a voice feature. During the launch of GPT-4o in May, the company demonstrated the new audio feature, although it was met with much criticism. The voice was said to be eerily similar to that of actress Scarlett Johansson.
Realtime conversation
OpenAI has clearly not been idle after its first demo of ChatGPT’s voice feature. The company announced in a post on X that it is rolling out a new advanced Voice Mode for some paying users, this time without a voice that looks hard like Scarlett Johansson’s.
“The advanced voice mode offers more natural, real-time conversations, allows you to pause at any time and feels and responds to your emotions,” according to a post on X by OpenAI. Currently, a small group of paying users can test out the new feature. By the fall, all ChatGPT Plus members should have access to Voice Mode’s expanded toolset.
Available in EU
OpenAI now also confirms the rollout of Advanced Voice Mode to the EU, as well as to Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. However, a paid Plus subscription is required to have a chat with ChatGPT.
