NTT has been hit by a hack on the company’s internal systems. The information of nearly 18,000 customers has been leaked.
NTT Communications discovered on February 5 that hackers had gained access to the company’s internal systems, as NTT shares in Japanese on its website. Information from about 17,891 customers is said to have been leaked. This reportedly includes customer data such as contract numbers, customer names, email addresses, and more. It is not yet clear exactly when the hack took place.
Customer Data Leaked
The hackers allegedly gained access to information about business customer services located in the ‘Order Information Distribution System’, NTT’s internal system. Potentially 17,891 customers have been affected. The leaked information relates to the contract number, customer name (contract name), customer representative name, phone number, email address, address, and information related to the use of the service.
The hack was first noticed on February 5. On February 15, the first measures were taken to block equipment that had been accessed.
NTT is notifying its potentially affected customers through their sales representative or by sealed letter. No information will be sent to customers via email. “We will further strengthen our security measures and monitoring system to prevent recurrence and strive to further improve the quality of our services,” the company stated.
