Privacy Above All: DuckDuckGo Expands AI, but Leaves Choice Free

Users Can Still Determine How Often They Want to See AI Search Results

Search engine DuckDuckGo is making a big investment in AI. AI search results will be able to search the entire web for information, not just Wikipedia anymore. Soon, the AI chatbot Duck.ai will also be able to search the internet.

Users Get Choice

Through Duck.ai, users can anonymously use popular AI models such as GPT-4o mini, Llama 3.3, Mistral Small 3, and Claude 3 Haiku. CEO Gabriel Weinberg in The Verge: “We want to gradually increase the use of AI, but only when it’s truly relevant.” Fortunately, DuckDuckGo still adheres to its privacy promise, so users can decide for themselves how often they want to see AI-generated search results.

Additionally, Duck.ai has rolled out a Recent Chats feature, which stores previous conversations locally instead of on a server. Soon, the chatbot will gain the ability to search the web, voice control on iOS and Android smartphones, and the capability to analyze images.

Weinberg emphasizes that Duck.ai will always remain free, but DuckDuckGo is considering putting its more advanced AI models behind a $9.99 per month subscription. You can try DuckDuckGo’s chatbot for free via Duck.ai, test the AI search results through the search engine itself, or explore the browser.
