Dropbox will pull the plug on its password manager Passwords on October 28, 2025, as announced on its support page. The company wants to focus on “improving other features in our core product”. Dropbox advises users to export their data and transfer it to another password manager before October 28.

End on October 28

On October 28, 2025, Dropbox Passwords will be permanently discontinued. This discontinuation will occur in stages. On August 28, 2025, Dropbox Passwords will be set to “view-only” in both the mobile app and the browser extension. This means you can still view your saved data such as usernames and passwords, but you cannot add new ones.

From September 11, 2025, the mobile app of Dropbox Password will no longer work. However, you can still access your data via the browser extension.

The final step will take place on October 28, 2025, marking the definitive end of Passwords. From then on, users will no longer be able to access or add saved usernames, passwords, and payment information. “All data will also be permanently and securely deleted from the servers”, Dropbox emphasizes.

Export data

Do you want to keep your usernames and passwords? Dropbox recommends exporting your data from Dropbox Passwords so you can easily transfer it to another password manager, such as 1Password.

To export your data, go to your profile in the lower left via the browser extension and click on Preferences. Then navigate to the Account tab and click on Export.

From October 28, all data will be permanently deleted. If you want to keep your data, it is recommended to create an export file in time.
