The automatic updates for VMware Workstations are temporarily broken. Users are being redirected to the general support page and subsequently receive an error message.
Users with VMware Workstation are experiencing issues with the software’s automatic update functionality, as reported by BleepingComputer. This feature no longer works after Broadcom redirected the download URL to the company’s general support page. Broadcom has not yet provided an explanation or solution.
Support Page
The VMware Workstations software normally checks for new updates at startup. These updates can also be manually activated by navigating to Help > Software Updates.
Users of VMware Workstations have reported an error related to the software’s automatic update functionality. This is said to be broken after Broadcom incorrectly changed the download URL to the general support page (https://support.broadcom.com/).

As a result, when updating, users are directed to the support page, after which the application indicates certificate validation errors. This causes the update mechanism to fail.

“A certificate error occurred while connecting to the update server. Check your internet settings or contact your system administrator,” reads the VMware Workstation error.
Despite this error during updates, VMware Workstations continue to function normally. The downside, of course, is that users may miss crucial bug fixes or security patches. To date, Broadcom has not offered any explanation or temporary solution.
