Orange chooses Ericsson for deployment of 5g network slicing in Europe

Orange to collaborate with Ericsson to enable automation of 5G network slicing in its European subsidiaries. The solution, tested in Belgium, will be gradually rolled out in multiple countries starting from 2025.

The collaboration between Orange and Ericsson aims to support 5G services for both businesses and private customers. The system is based on the Ericsson Service Orchestration and Assurance platform, which enables streamlined and automated deployment of 5G Standalone services. The platform works “intent-based”, meaning applications such as private networks, CellLock, geofencing, and fixed wireless access can be easily created and scaled.

Test in Belgium

For the collaboration, Orange chose Ericsson after a successful test at the end of 2024 in Belgium. During this test, it was demonstrated that the platform can handle full end-to-end automation of network slices. This allows Orange’s local entities to more easily respond to business needs with customized solutions for network capacity and reliability.

The solution is integrated into Orange’s cloud infrastructure, based on the open-source platform Sylva. This also supports Orange’s broader cloud transition. The automation should lead to more efficient network operations and improved service delivery based on specific requirements per customer or application.

“This collaboration with Ericsson is an important step in our evolution towards cloud-native and customer demand-aligned autonomous networks,” says Laurent Leboucher, Group Chief Technology Officer at Orange.
