Arista Networks introduces a new R4 series of routers aimed at AI and data center environments.
Arista Networks has introduced the R4 series of routers. The devices are aimed at AI and data center environments. The series includes both modular and fixed systems with speeds up to 800 Gbps per port and introduces HyperPort technology with a capacity of 3.2 Tbps per interface.
The routers support modern network architectures such as EVPN, VXLAN, MPLS, and SRv6. Deep packet buffering is also present to limit packet loss during temporary network congestion. The R4 series includes the 7800R4, 7280R4, and 7020R4, which are distinguished by different form factors, port densities, and applications.
Specifications
The key specifications of the 7800R4 series are:
- High density of up to 576 800GbE ports in a single system.
- 800 GbE line cards with 36 ports.
- Introduction of HyperPort for a single 3.2 Tbps high-speed interface for scalable connections between data center locations.
The 7280R4 complements the 7800R4 in a compact fixed form factor. Key improvements to the 7280R4 series are:
- 32-port 800 GbE system, useful as an AI/DC spine or backbone router
- 64-port 100 GbE with 10-port 800 GbE system, useful for an AI/DC leaf
Security is built into the R4 series. All systems support line-rate encryption via TunnelSec, with technologies such as MACsec, IPsec, and VXLANsec. These security options are available on every port.
Most products in the R4 series are available immediately. Only the modular 7020R4 platform and the 7800R4 with HyperPort will follow in the first quarter of 2026.
