Siemens partners with Snowflake to help manufacturing companies better utilize their operational data.
The connection between Siemens Industrial Edge and Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud platform enables the combination of data from machines and production processes with IT systems such as logistics and finance.
Factory Data from Edge to Cloud
By integrating operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), Siemens and Snowflake aim to help companies gain better insight into their production processes. Siemens Industrial Edge collects and processes data at the network edge – directly from sensors, PLCs, and other machines – and sends it to Snowflake’s cloud platform. There, the data is further analyzed, including with AI models.
This approach should lead to higher machine performance, improved availability, and optimized production. The solution is aimed at production managers, data engineers, and IT managers who struggle with data silos and limited transparency. By making data available in a uniform way, companies can pivot faster and work more efficiently.
FFT as a Practical Example
The company FFT is already using the joint solution in its own production environment. Through FFT’s DataBridge app, data is securely and scalably forwarded to Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud. FFT also provides support to other manufacturers who want to apply the same approach, doing so as a partner within the Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem.
The collaboration supports the deployment of AI in industrial environments, with applications such as predictive maintenance, automated process optimization, and quality control. Siemens and Snowflake aim to help companies extend their digital transformation to the production floor, resulting in measurable efficiency gains.
