Cegeka invests in renewable energy projects for complete sustainability

cegeka

Cegeka is fully committed to sustainability and renewable energy. From 2026, Cegeka wants its data centers, offices and electric vehicles to run on renewable energy.

From 2026, Cegeka wants all its data centers, offices and electric vehicles in Belgium and the Netherlands to run on renewable energy. That is why the ICT company is building its own wind turbine and concluding a contract with the Kristal Solar Park in Lommel.

Renewable electricity from Tessenderlo and Lommel

Cegeka is investing in two renewable energy projects in Flanders. An own wind turbine will be built in Tessenderlo, which should be operational by the beginning of 2026. In Lommel, the company is entering into a long-term agreement with Kristal Solar Park, which will supply green electricity by the end of 2025. Together, the installations will generate enough energy to cover the entire consumption of Cegeka’s data centers, offices and electric vehicles in Belgium and the Netherlands.

“We want to take our responsibility with tangible, sustainable solutions and invest locally in renewable energy,” says Luc Greefs, VP Global Operations at Cegeka.

Towards climate-neutral cloud services by 2030

Cegeka wants to offer fully climate-neutral cloud services by 2030. “Our customers want to know where their data is located and under what circumstances. By fully opting for climate-neutral infrastructure, we make it easier for them to report and become more sustainable,” says Greefs.

In addition to renewable energy, the company is also investing in energy-efficient IT infrastructure, biofuel for emergency generators, CO₂-neutral extinguishing gases and a circular approach for IT hardware. External factors also play a role. European regulations, such as the CSRD, require companies to report their environmental impact in detail. Cegeka is responding to this by making its infrastructure more sustainable. According to the company, this helps customers to more easily achieve their own sustainability goals.

The investments also contribute to energy independence and a more stable energy cost. Cegeka consciously chooses local energy production instead of emission rights on the free market. What Cegeka cannot avoid is CO₂ emissions. The company wants to compensate for this through projects related to ocean restoration, reforestation and biodiversity.
